On the slopes of the Klein River Mountains you will find Blue Gum Country Estate, a 5 star lodge that is situated near Hermanus - the whale watching town of South Africa.

Although Hermanus is not "technically" part of the Garden Route area, it can be considered to be the beginning stages of the Garden Route, with its spectacular coastal walks, relaxing atmoshpere, waterfalls, rivers and mountain backdrops. As far as Hermanus accommodation goes, the Blue Gum is one of the best for lazy summer days on the patio and cold winter evenings in front of the fire.

Enjoy a fun game of tennis, a refreshing swim in the pool and spend your evenings enjoying fine cuisine on either the patio or in the dining hall of one of the top Garden Route guest houses.

Accommodation overlooks beautiful vineyards and consists of five mountain facing suites, decorated in English country style, each with a fireplace, arm chairs and private patio and five colonial African style suites, situated in the Manor House.

Location

Located outside of Stanford, 20kms beyond Hermanus, Blue gum offers an alternative route, and destination, for those traveling to the garden route, or for those escaping the city for a weekend. Traveling time from Cape Town is just under 2 hours.

Directions & Map - Blue Gum Country Estate

Blue Gum Country Estate is located 7 km off the R326 that runs between Stanford and Riviersonderend. If traveling from the Garden Route the R326 turn off (to the left) to Stanford is about 10km after you pass through the town of Riviersonderend.

If traveling from Cape Town via Hermanus, proceed through Hermanus, following the signs to Stanford / Gansbaai.

As you approach the town of Stanford there is a two way stop. Turn left (onto the R326) past the Birkenhead Brewery, and proceed for 7km, at which point you will see our turn off, at the cheese factory, follow our signs on the gravel road all the way to the end of the road.

• Bird Watching - Blue Gum boasts a bird population of 110 recorded species. Riverine thickets, pastures and mountain Fynbos affords the estate this diversity. Regular sightings range from fish eagles to elegant blue cranes
• We have a modest library in the lounge. There are also various games, including chess, playing cards, backgammon, scrabble and a bridge table
